## The short answer

IELTS One Skill Retake lets you resit one skill (listening, reading, writing or speaking) without taking the whole test again. You must have taken the full test as IELTS on computer, at a centre that offers the retake, and you must sit the retake within 60 days.

## The rules

- The original full test must be IELTS on computer.
- You can retake one skill, once per original test, within 60 days of the full test.
- It's available for IELTS Academic and General Training, and for IELTS for UKVI in selected locations.
- You get a new Test Report Form in 3-5 days and choose which result to send.

## Who accepts it

Acceptance varies, so check before you book. Australia accepts IELTS results that include a One Skill Retake for eligible visas. Canada doesn't accept it for Express Entry. Universities set their own policies.

## When it's worth it

The retake makes sense when a single skill is below your target and the others are comfortably above it, for example a 6.5 in writing when you need 7 everywhere. Use the 60 days to work only on that skill: take timed practice and get feedback on what is pulling the band down. Testmigo's [free IELTS mock](/ielts) gives band feedback for each skill, including writing criteria.
