## The short answer

The Digital SAT, run by the College Board, has two sections, Reading and Writing and Math, with 98 questions in 2 hours and 14 minutes plus a 10-minute break.

- **Questions:** 98
- **Time:** 2 hours 14 minutes, plus a 10-minute break
- **Reading and Writing:** 54 questions, 64 minutes
- **Math:** 44 questions, 70 minutes
- **Total score:** 400-1600
- **Each section:** 200-800

Each section has two modules, and how you do on the first module sets the difficulty of the second. The total score runs from 400 to 1600: 200-800 for Reading and Writing plus 200-800 for Math.

## Format at a glance

Reading and Writing uses short passages, each with a single question, covering comprehension, grammar and rhetoric. Math covers algebra, advanced math, problem-solving and data analysis, and geometry and trigonometry. Most questions are multiple choice; some Math questions ask you to enter the answer yourself.

## How scoring works

Your total score is the sum of two section scores, each from 200 to 800. Because the second module adapts to your first, the first module matters: doing well there leads to a harder second module, which is the route to the top of the scale.

Use a target total, or a section target, as your planning anchor, then turn it into weekly skill work. To score a paper practice test or work out your superscore, use the free [SAT score calculator](/sat/score-calculator).

## Practice with purpose

1. Take a full timed practice test under test-day conditions.
2. Sort every miss: missing content, misreading the question, running out of time, or picking a tempting wrong answer.
3. Spend the next few sessions on the most common reason, not on random topics.
4. Redo missed Math problems without notes before reading a worked solution.
5. Retest with a fresh full test after one to two weeks.

Practice on a similar device to the one you'll use on test day, since screen fatigue and timing are part of the score. Testmigo's [free Digital SAT mock](/sat) runs on a Bluebook-style screen, gives your 400-1600 range, and ranks the domains costing you points, with 16,000+ questions to drill them.
