# IELTS fee in Nepal

IELTS on computer costs NPR 36,000 in Nepal at both IDP and the British Council. The full fee table, how to book, the ID rule, cancellation policy and paper status, from each provider's own page.

- IDP, IELTS for UKVI (Computer): IDP's payment-instructions article (effective 1 July 2025) shows NPR 28,800; the main fee table shows NPR 36,400.
- IDP, One Skill Retake (Computer): No fee published. Offered at the Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan computer centres, within 60 days of the original test.
- British Council, One Skill Retake (Computer): No fee published. Must be taken within 60 days of the original test.

## How to book

- IDP: Book online in IDP's booking tool (choose the test, city and date, and book your Speaking slot), uploading a clear scanned colour copy of your passport. Pay by bank deposit, online banking/IPS, NEPAL PAY QR, eSewa/FonePay or card at the IDP office, and email bank deposit slips within 2 days of booking. - British Council: Register online in the British Council IELTS registration portal, then pay British Council Services Nepal Private Limited by eSewa, Standard Chartered online transfer or bank deposit. Email the proof of payment with your name, passport copy and IELTS reference number to payment@britishcouncil.org. [Book with British Council](https://ieltsregistration.britishcouncil.org/)

## ID to bring

- IDP: Upload "a clear, scanned colour copy of your passport" when booking, and bring "the passport/national identity card you used on the IELTS Application Form" to the test.
- British Council: Register with "a valid passport" and present "the same passport that you use for registration on test day"; a different, invalid or expired passport is not accepted.

## Test dates and centres

- IDP: IELTS on computer is "available up to 7 days a week"; see open dates in IDP's booking tool. Centres: Kathmandu, Pokhara, Birtamode, Ghorahi, Nepalgunj, Itahari, Hetauda, Banepa, Chitwan, Biratnagar, Butwal.
- British Council: Tests run in morning and afternoon sessions; see the schedule on the British Council's dates, fees and locations page. Centres: Butwal, Chitwan, Kathmandu, Itahari, Pokhara.

## Reschedule, cancel and refund

- IDP: If you postpone or cancel more than 5 weeks before the test date, you get a refund minus an administration charge; within 5 weeks you are charged the full fee unless you have a medical reason. With a medical certificate sent within 5 days of the test date, you get a refund minus the local administrative cost.
- British Council: Cancel 15 or more days before the test for a 75% refund (25% admin fee); within 14 days there is no refund. Transfers are free 15 or more days before, cost 25% within 5-14 days, and are not allowed under 5 days.

## Paper or computer

- IDP: IDP says IELTS on paper is no longer offered in Nepal after 27 June 2026.
- British Council: Paper-based IELTS is not offered; IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper (not for UKVI) is available in Kathmandu only.

## When results come

IELTS on computer and IELTS for UKVI results come in 1 to 5 days (most within 2), and a One Skill Retake in 3 to 5 days. Paper tests, where still offered, take up to 13 days.

Neither. Both charge NPR 36,000 for IELTS Academic or General Training on computer.

### Can I take IELTS online?

IELTS Online is taken at home, but check that the organisation you need it for accepts it. Australia's Home Affairs doesn't, and UK visas that need a Secure English Language Test need IELTS for UKVI. See the band requirements pages for each country's rules.
