## Why these answers are right

**11. A.** The speaker says honeybees live in large colonies and in a city almost all of them are managed by beekeepers. Managed by beekeepers matches mostly kept by beekeepers, option A.

**12. B.** Bumblebees have fur, and the speaker says it lets them fly in cold, cloudy weather when other bees stay at home. That ability is option B.

**13. C.** Mason bees live alone and nest in small holes in walls, which is why old brick buildings suit them. Option C states the same nesting habit.

## Transcript

**Speaker:** Good evening, everyone. Tonight I want to talk about the bees that share our city with us.

**Speaker:** Honeybees are the ones most people picture. They live in large colonies, and in a city almost all of them are managed by beekeepers.

**Speaker:** Bumblebees are rounder and furrier, and that fur matters: it lets them fly in cold, cloudy weather when other bees stay at home.

**Speaker:** Mason bees live alone rather than in colonies. They nest in small holes in walls, which is why old brick buildings suit them so well.

**Speaker:** You may have heard that bees prefer blue flowers. Our own observations didn't support that, so I'd treat it with caution.

**Speaker:** So what did our survey find? Volunteers counted bees across the city over three summers, recording every sighting on a simple form.

**Speaker:** Parks did well, but most of the bees recorded were found in private gardens, which surprised many of us.

**Speaker:** If you want to help, plant flowers that bloom in early spring, when bees first come out and food is hardest to find.

**Speaker:** And please, avoid using weed killer on your lawns. Many so-called weeds are exactly what bees need.
