## Why these answers are right

**1. Pemberton.** The caller gives her name as Laura Pemberton and then spells the surname letter by letter. Spelling is marked in IELTS Listening, so listen to the spelled letters rather than guessing from the sound of the name.

**2. Elmwood.** The caller says her address is Fourteen Elmwood Road and adds that Elmwood is one word. The form already gives the number and Road, so only Elmwood belongs in the gap.

**3. 20.** The officer offers ten or twenty square metres, and the caller chooses the bigger one, twenty square metres. The answer can be written as the number 20 or the word twenty.

## Transcript

**Officer:** Good morning, Riverside Community Garden, how can I help?

**Caller:** Hi. I'd like to rent a plot, if you have any free this year.

**Officer:** We do. Let me take a few details first. What's your name?

**Caller:** Laura Pemberton. That's P, E, M, B, E, R, T, O, N.

**Officer:** Thank you. And your address?

**Caller:** Fourteen Elmwood Road. Elmwood is one word.

**Officer:** Lovely. Our plots come in two sizes, ten or twenty square metres. Which would suit you?

**Caller:** The bigger one, please, so twenty square metres.

**Officer:** Every new member has to attend an induction before they start. We run them on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday mornings.

**Caller:** I work late on Wednesdays, so Saturday would be better.

**Officer:** Saturday it is. The fee can be paid by bank transfer or by card at the office.

**Caller:** I'll pay by card when I come in.

**Officer:** Can I ask what you're hoping to use the plot for?

**Caller:** We'll grow a few vegetables, of course, but mainly I want my two children to learn where their food comes from.

**Officer:** That's a great reason. One more thing: every plot holder gives one hour a month to looking after the shared areas, like the paths and the flower borders.

**Caller:** That sounds fair. Where will I find everything when I arrive?

**Officer:** Come in through the main gate. The tool shed is just inside the gate, on your left.

**Officer:** The compost bins are in the far right-hand corner, against the hedge.

**Officer:** And the water tap is in the very middle of the garden, right beside the bench.

**Caller:** Perfect. Thank you so much.
