## Why these answers are right

**29. timber and stone.** The table asks for building materials in the traditional period before the 18th century. The writer says architects moved away from timber, stone and traditional building techniques toward steel, glass and concrete. So timber and stone were the earlier materials.

**30. Modernism.** The 1920s row needs the style that was introduced. Paragraph D says that by the 1920s European architects were reacting against industrial conditions, and a new style made possible by new materials emerged, known as Modernism. Write Modernism.

**31. International style.** The 1930s to 1950s row needs a style marked by geometric forms. By the 1930s many buildings were designed in the International Style, characterized by simple geometric forms, and by the 1950s it had become a universal approach. So the answer is International Style.
