## Why these answers are right

**1. C.** The question asks what AHI's high running costs are linked to. Paragraph A says profits are hard to achieve because of Australia's high labour-cost structure. Labour costs are the cost of employing people, so C, staff, is right. Management and policies are what AHI changes later in response.

**2. A.** You need to know how many management jobs the new structure keeps. Paragraph B says there are 25 per cent fewer management positions than before. If a quarter of the jobs are gone, three quarters remain, so the structure needs 75% of the old positions, which is A.

**3. C.** The question asks which practice SAH had to change. Paragraph C says the hotel needed a different approach to selecting employees who would fit its new policies, and it goes on to describe advertisements, tests and interviews. Selecting employees means hiring staff, so C is correct.
