# IELTS Speaking band score calculator

The four Speaking criteria to a band, from their equally weighted average.

## How the Speaking band is worked out

The examiner scores fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. The four carry equal weight, and their average gives the Speaking band.

IELTS does not publish how an average such as 6.25 is rounded for Speaking, so the calculator shows both half bands when the average falls between them. [Read Speaking answers by band](/ielts/speaking/topics) to see what the next band does differently.

## Speaking score questions

### What are the four IELTS Speaking criteria?

Fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. Each is worth a quarter of the Speaking band.

### Does accent affect my IELTS Speaking score?

No. Pronunciation is about how easily you are understood, including stress, rhythm and intonation, not about having a particular accent.

### How long is the IELTS Speaking test?

11 to 14 minutes in three parts: an interview, a two-minute talk on a cue card after one minute to prepare, and a discussion.
