Results must be less than two years old when you apply. Provincial programs set their own levels. The same thresholds for IELTS General Training are on [IELTS band requirements for Canada](/ielts/band-requirements/canada), and the [CLB calculator](/tools/clb-calculator) compares PTE Core with IELTS and CELPIP.

## CRS points for each CLB level

| CLB 8 | 23 | 22 |

## PTE Core score questions

### What PTE Core score is CLB 7?

L 60, R 60, W 69, S 68: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking in that order. Each skill must reach its own figure.

### What PTE Core score is CLB 9?

L 82, R 78, W 88, S 84, in the same order. Writing needs the highest score of the four.

### Can I use PTE Academic for Express Entry?

No. Canada accepts PTE Core, a different test, along with IELTS General Training and CELPIP-General. [PTE Core vs PTE Academic](/blog/pte-core-vs-pte-academic) explains which test fits which goal.

### Does PTE Core give an overall score?

Yes, from 10 to 90, along with the four skill scores. IRCC uses the skill scores, converted to CLB levels one by one, so this calculator works skill by skill.

### How long are PTE Core results valid for Canada?

IRCC needs results less than two years old on the day you apply.
