Check your browser and microphone, hear yourself after the beep, and see the 3-second silence stop.

## How recording works in PTE speaking

Each speaking task shows a short preparation countdown, then a beep, then the recording starts on its own. If you stay silent for more than 3 seconds, the recording stops and you can't restart it.

- Speak after the beep, not before it.
- Keep going after a mistake: a pause of 3 seconds ends the answer.
- Keep the microphone about two fingers from your mouth, slightly to the side.

### Why does my PTE recording stop early?

The test stops recording after 3 seconds of silence. Practise speaking without long pauses, even after a mistake.

### Is anything I record here sent anywhere?

No. The recording stays in this browser tab and is deleted when you leave the page.

### Which browser works best?

Recent versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari all record audio. If the microphone is blocked, the page shows how to allow it in your browser.
