# PTE RL #3: The Importance of Deliberate Practice

Re-tell Lecture #3 - Level 1 - Feeds Speaking + Listening

> You will hear a lecture. When it ends, you have 10 seconds to prepare, then 40 seconds to retell the lecture in your own words.

## Explanation

Listen for the main claim that deliberate practice, not talent alone, builds mastery. Note the two examples, violin playing and geometry, and the ten-year figure for top performers. The talk moves from what practice involves to who needs it, ending with encouragement for average learners.

## Hints

- Focus on the speaker's main argument about the necessity of practice.
- Note the examples provided, such as violin playing and geometry, to illustrate the point.

## Transcript

Deliberate practice takes time and people also need to find and solve problems and mistakes during it. To be a high-performing solo musician for the violin, you also have to spend several dozen hundreds of hours in solitary practice. When it comes to other things, for example, studying geometry, it is still the case. During practice, you should identify your weakness, focus on it, and carry out further deliberate practice to demonstrate how important deliberate practice is. Even for talents, they generally need to spend 10 years to achieve the high international level of recognition. So there is no need for average people to be ashamed to practice.
