Economic globalization has been a predominant phenomenon now. What problems may it cause? Please list some of them.

## Answer

Economic globalization, the growing integration of national economies through trade and investment, now shapes almost every country. While it has brought cheaper goods and new markets, I believe it also causes serious problems. The most significant are job insecurity and rising inequality, along with damage to local cultures and the natural environment.

The first problem is that globalization can destroy jobs and widen the gap between rich and poor. Companies often move factories to countries where wages are lower, leaving workers in their home regions unemployed. For example, a town that once depended on a large textile mill may decline sharply after production moves overseas. Meanwhile, business owners and highly skilled workers tend to gain the most from global markets, so inequality within countries may grow.

A second problem concerns culture and the environment. As multinational brands spread, small local businesses often struggle to compete, and traditional products and customs can disappear. A family-run restaurant serving regional dishes, for instance, may close after several international fast-food chains open nearby. In addition, transporting goods across the world by ship and plane increases pollution, and some firms move polluting activities to countries with weaker environmental laws.

In conclusion, although economic globalization has clear benefits, it may cause several significant problems. These include job losses, growing inequality, the loss of local culture and environmental harm. Governments should therefore manage global trade carefully, for example by retraining displaced workers and enforcing strong environmental standards.

## Explanation

A high-scoring response identifies specific issues like income inequality, loss of local cultural identity, and environmental degradation. It provides a balanced view by linking these problems to the interconnected nature of modern markets.

## Hints

- Consider how international trade affects small local businesses compared to multinational corporations.
- Think about the environmental cost of transporting goods globally and the pressure on developing nations to prioritize production over sustainability.
