Write Essay #4 - Level 1 - Feeds Writing

> You have 20 minutes to plan, write and check an essay on the topic below. Write 200-300 words and answer the question exactly as it is asked.

Do you agree that technology has had a more positive than negative impact on the quality of education?

## Answer

Over the last two decades, computers, the internet and learning software have become a normal part of classrooms around the world. Although technology has created some new difficulties, I agree that its overall effect on the quality of education has been more positive than negative.

The strongest argument is that technology has made high-quality learning materials far more accessible. A student in a small rural school can now watch lectures from leading universities, use interactive science simulations and read up-to-date articles online. Before these tools existed, such a student would have depended almost entirely on a few textbooks and a single teacher. Wider access of this kind narrows the gap between well-funded and poorly funded schools. Teachers, too, can share lesson plans and resources with colleagues in other regions and countries.

Technology also allows teaching to be adapted to individual needs. Learning platforms can track which questions a pupil answers incorrectly and then provide extra practice on exactly those topics. For example, a child who struggles with fractions can work through additional exercises at her own pace, while faster classmates move ahead. Critics rightly point out that devices can distract students and reduce face-to-face interaction. However, clear classroom rules and thoughtful lesson design can largely control these problems.

In conclusion, technology is not a perfect solution, and its misuse can harm concentration. Nevertheless, because it widens access to knowledge and supports personalized learning, I firmly believe it has done more to improve the quality of education than to damage it.

## Explanation

A high-scoring response effectively balances the argument by acknowledging both the accessibility provided by digital tools and the potential for distraction. It uses clear topic sentences to guide the reader through the benefits of remote learning and information retrieval while maintaining a cohesive structure.

## Hints

- Start by brainstorming three specific ways digital tools have changed how students access information compared to traditional methods.
- Ensure you address the counter-argument by briefly discussing potential drawbacks, such as the digital divide or reduced face-to-face interaction, before refuting them.
