Teenagers should receive lessons on principles of personal finance, such as investing and debt. To what extent do you agree with this statement?

## Answer

Young people today face financial decisions earlier than previous generations, from using bank cards to taking on student loans. I completely agree that teenagers should receive lessons on personal finance, including topics such as budgeting, investing and debt.

The most important reason is that financial mistakes made early in life can have long-lasting consequences. Many young adults sign up for credit cards or personal loans without understanding how interest builds over time. For example, a university student who pays only the minimum amount on a credit card each month may still be repaying the debt years after graduation. Lessons at school would show teenagers how borrowing works before they are tempted to borrow. A short course on borrowing could prevent years of financial worry.

In addition, financial education gives every student the same basic knowledge, regardless of family background. Some parents discuss saving and investing at home, but many others lack the confidence or experience to do so. If a school teaches simple ideas such as compound interest and spreading investments across different assets, students from less advantaged families can begin saving early. They will also be better prepared to make informed choices about retirement accounts and long-term savings. This reduces inequality and helps create a more financially stable society.

In conclusion, I fully support teaching personal finance to teenagers. Such lessons can prevent harmful debt, encourage sensible saving and give all young people an equal foundation for managing their money as adults.

## Explanation

A strong response clearly states a position in the introduction, supports it with logical arguments in body paragraphs, and concludes with a summary. It effectively balances the need for practical life skills with academic priorities.

## Hints

- Start by defining your stance clearly. Do you believe this should be mandatory, optional, or integrated into existing subjects?
- Consider the long-term societal impact of financial literacy, such as reduced debt levels and better economic stability for young adults.
