## Answer

Some people believe that governments should spend less on the arts, such as theaters, and direct more money toward pressing areas like technological research. Although I recognize the importance of research, I disagree with this opinion, because the arts provide social benefits that are just as valuable to a community.

My own experience shows how much a public arts venue can contribute. When I was in secondary school, my town opened a small government-funded theater that offered cheap tickets and free workshops for teenagers. I joined a drama group there, and it greatly improved my confidence in speaking in front of others. The theater also brought visitors to nearby shops and restaurants, which helped local businesses during difficult years. Without public funding, a venue like this could never have survived on ticket sales alone.

Moreover, technology research is rarely short of money in the way that the arts are. Large companies already invest heavily in developing new products because they expect to profit from them. In contrast, few private investors fund local theaters, museums or orchestras, since these seldom earn large returns. If governments withdraw their support, many cultural institutions will simply close, and future generations will lose access to an important part of their heritage.

In conclusion, I do not agree that governments should reduce their attention to the arts in favor of technology research. Both areas deserve public funding, and my experience suggests that even modest support for the arts can enrich individuals and strengthen communities.
