Girls and boys should attend separate schools. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

## Answer

Some people argue that girls and boys learn best when they attend separate schools. I disagree with this view. In my opinion, mixed schools prepare young people more effectively for adult life and offer a more balanced education, even though single-sex schools may have some advantages.

The main reason for my position is that coeducational schools reflect the real world. After graduation, men and women study, work and live alongside each other, so they need to learn how to communicate and cooperate from an early age. In a mixed classroom, students regularly work in teams with classmates of the other sex. For example, a group project on renewable energy might combine different perspectives and teach every member to respect other viewpoints. Such experiences build social skills that are harder to develop in a single-sex environment.

Furthermore, mixed schools can help reduce gender stereotypes. Supporters of separate schools claim that students are less distracted and that girls may feel more confident in subjects such as science. However, when boys and girls study the same subjects side by side, they see that ability does not depend on gender. A girl who outperforms boys in mathematics, or a boy who excels in creative writing, challenges traditional assumptions in front of everyone. In separate schools, these assumptions may remain unchallenged.

In conclusion, I disagree that girls and boys should attend separate schools. Although single-sex schools may reduce some distractions, mixed schools better prepare students for working life and help break down gender stereotypes. For these reasons, coeducation remains the better choice for most students.

## Explanation

A strong response acknowledges the complexity of the issue. It provides a clear thesis statement, supports arguments with logical reasoning, and addresses potential counterarguments to demonstrate a balanced perspective.

## Hints

- Start by brainstorming the potential academic and social advantages of both single-sex and coeducational environments.
- Organize your essay by dedicating one paragraph to the benefits of your chosen stance and another to addressing the opposing viewpoint.
