Do you agree that physical books will eventually become obsolete?

## Answer

With the rise of e-readers, tablets and audiobooks, some people predict that printed books will eventually disappear. I disagree with this prediction. Although digital reading will continue to grow, I believe physical books will remain in use because they offer practical and emotional benefits that screens cannot fully replace.

Firstly, many readers find printed books more comfortable and effective for serious reading. Looking at a screen for long periods can cause eye strain, while paper is easier on the eyes and free of distracting notifications. Some readers also feel they remember information better when they can turn pages and see their progress. For example, many students still prefer printed textbooks, where they can highlight passages and write notes in the margins while preparing for exams.

Secondly, physical books have a cultural and emotional value that digital files lack. People enjoy browsing in bookshops, giving books as gifts and building personal libraries that reflect their interests. A grandparent who passes down a well-loved copy of a classic novel, for instance, is sharing a memory as well as a story. In addition, printed books do not depend on batteries, software updates or internet access, so they can remain readable for centuries. This durability makes them important for libraries and archives.

In conclusion, I do not agree that physical books will become obsolete. Digital formats are convenient and will continue to expand, but printed books offer comfort, lasting value and independence from technology. For these reasons, the two formats are likely to exist side by side for a long time.

## Explanation

A strong response acknowledges the complexity of the issue by discussing both the convenience of digital media and the enduring sensory appeal of traditional formats.

## Hints

- Consider the advantages of digital formats, such as portability and instant access, compared to the tactile experience of paper.
- Organize your essay into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a balanced conclusion.
