Some believe the value of travel is overrated. 'One brilliant scholar never leaves the home bases.' People argue whether travel is or not a necessary component of quality education. To what extent do you agree with it?

## Answer

Some people argue that travel is overrated, claiming that a brilliant scholar can learn everything without leaving home. Others insist that travel is an essential part of a quality education. I partly agree with the first view, since travel can greatly enrich learning but is not a necessary component of a good education.

Travel certainly offers educational benefits that are hard to gain from books alone. Seeing historical sites, hearing a foreign language in daily use and meeting people with different values can make knowledge more vivid and memorable. For example, a student who visits ancient ruins after studying them in class often understands their scale and significance far better than before. Such experiences also build independence, adaptability and confidence in unfamiliar situations. A semester abroad can therefore turn abstract lessons into lasting personal experiences.

Nevertheless, a high-quality education does not depend on travel. Many outstanding thinkers produced their most important work while rarely leaving their home towns, relying instead on reading, reflection and discussion. Today, online lectures, virtual museum tours and video calls with international classmates allow students to explore the world from a classroom. Making travel a requirement would also be unfair to families who cannot afford expensive trips abroad.

In conclusion, I agree to some extent that the value of travel is overrated when it is treated as essential. Travel can deepen understanding and personal growth, but curiosity, good teaching and accessible resources are the true foundations of a quality education.

## Explanation

A high-scoring response acknowledges the complexity of the prompt by presenting a balanced view. It effectively argues that while travel offers unique cultural immersion, intellectual development is not exclusively tied to physical movement.

## Hints

- Start by defining your stance clearly in the introduction to guide the reader through your argument.
- Consider both the benefits of experiential learning through travel and the potential for academic growth through literature and digital resources.
