# PTE Summarize Group Discussion template

Group the discussion; don't replay it line by line. Content rewards who proposed what, who disagreed and what the group settled on. Note one phrase per speaker and the outcome, then speak through the moves below for up to two minutes.

## What costs marks

- Reporting the conversation in the order it happened instead of grouping it.
- Running out at 45 seconds: add the reasons behind each position.
- Inventing an agreement that never happened.

## Worked example

**What they discussed:** Three students, Rachel, Imani and Dave, discussed whether students with low grades should be allowed to hold leadership roles in clubs.

**The proposal:** Rachel argued that leaders should need a minimum academic standing, because they represent the organisation on campus and academics should come first.

**The objection:** Imani disagreed, saying some students struggle with grades because of personal issues but can still be excellent leaders. Equity was also raised, since some students work part-time or care for family, and Dave admitted he hadn't considered that.

**The outcome:** In the end, instead of a fixed GPA cutoff, they agreed on basic academic expectations combined with flexibility, such as case-by-case reviews and mentoring for leaders whose grades slip.

## Questions

**How do I fill two minutes?**

Give a reason after each position. Reasons are most of what a discussion contains, and they keep you speaking without repeating yourself.

**Do I need every speaker's name?**

No. "One speaker", "another student" and "the professor" are fine, as long as it's clear who said what.
