# PTE Summarize Spoken Text template

Write from notes, not from memory of the words. Content rewards a summary that paraphrases and drops extra detail. Note the topic, two points and the conclusion while the audio plays, then write about 60 words in the three moves below.

Audio about 60-90 seconds, 10 minutes, 50-70 words (40-100 keeps the form point)

## The frame

### 1. Topic

What the speaker discussed, in one clause.

- The speaker discusses...
- The lecture explains how...
- The talk is about...

### 2. Two main points

The two ideas you noted, linked to each other.

- First, ..., and second, ...
- The speaker argues that..., which means that...
- They explain that...; however, ...

### 3. Conclusion

Where the talk ends up.

- The speaker concludes that...
- Overall, the point is that...
- As a result, ...

## What costs marks

- Writing down phrases as you hear them: transcription loses the synthesis marks.
- Over 100 words scores 0 for form.
- Words you can't spell: spelling is a scored trait here.

## Worked example

**Topic:** The speaker describes how gratitude, mindfulness, and exercise can trigger "flow," a peak performance state.

**Two main points:** Gratitude shifts attention from negativity, mindfulness calms the nervous system, and 20-40 minutes of exercise releases nitric oxide, flushing out stress hormones.

**Conclusion:** Together, these methods optimize cognition and emotional stability. Therefore, consistently practicing these tools helps enhance focus, reduce anxiety, and improve both performance and wellbeing.

## Questions

**How many words should I write?**

Aim for about 60. You keep the form point anywhere from 40 to 100 words, so 60 leaves room for a miscount.

**Can I write more than one sentence?**

Yes. Unlike Summarize Written Text, this summary can be several sentences.
