# PTE typing test

Type an academic passage with spellcheck off and see what your speed means for Write Essay and Write From Dictation.

## How fast you need to type for PTE

PTE has no typing speed requirement, but the clock does. A 250-word essay in 20 minutes needs time to plan and check, so the faster you type, the more of those minutes you keep.

| Typing speed | 250-word essay | 50-word summary | 12-word dictation |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 20 wpm | 12.5 min | 2.5 min | 36 s |
| 30 wpm | 8.3 min | 1.7 min | 24 s |
| 40 wpm | 6.3 min | 1.3 min | 18 s |

*Typing time only, at a steady speed*
