## Common questions

### How do I find a kanji by its parts?

Look for a part you recognize, such as 氵 (water), 亻 (person) or 口 (mouth). Tap it. Parts are grouped by stroke count, like a paper radical chart. Add more parts to narrow the list; parts that can't lead to a match fade out. Tap a kanji to see its meaning and readings, then check how to write it with the [stroke order tool](/tools/kanji-stroke-order).

### Which kanji are included?

The 2,136 jōyō kanji: the official list of kanji for general use in Japan, taught through school.

### Can I type the kanji instead?

If you can type it, the dictionary or stroke order tool is faster. Radical lookup is for kanji you can see but can't type.
